Mother's Day 2007

Well, my second Mother's Day was definitely the best one so far. We celebrated this morning by having my own Mom and Dad over for a light brunch. Gregg baked a mean rhubarb coffee cake (thanks for the rhubarb, marj!) and Henry got to help his Grandpa Glenn fill our bird feeders and show Grandma Bernita his expertise on the slide. He also demonstrated his latest "trick" which, seriously, kindof blows my mind: Henry can identify cardinals ("narnals") by their song. True, it's not something he just picked up out of the blue. Grandma Bernita has taught him. So, now we'll be sitting outside and he'll pick out their song when it's way off in the distance and when there are lawnmowers and dogs barking more close by. Suddenly he'll say, "Narnal!" and so we'll stop and listen and, sure enough, there's a cardinal half-a-block away, singing its distinctive song. He's a noticer, I guess! I could go on and on about his brilliance, of course, but I'll restrain myself.

Anyway, since it was our first weekend home in a month, there was no loafing around. Gregg started building a sand-box and play-structure for Henry while I potted lots of flowers for the deck and even transplanted some of the herbs that we started indoors about 6 weeks ago. After dinner we let Henry run around in his birthday suit in the yard ... then it was bathtime and then to bed.
