Weekend Report
Mom here. I could've spent the entire weekend taking photographs of Henry doing (and saying) wonderful, amazing things. But instead I opted to watch and listen. He spent most of the weekend helping his dad, which appeared to be pure delight for both of them. The weekend project was relocating a bunch of peonies and rose bushes in the backyard, and removing a couple of fence posts embedded in oversized concrete footings. Yes, there was a jackhammer involved!
It all started with a Saturday morning discussion about the day's activities, during which there was talk of hole-digging and the need for shovels. Henry's own shovel, we discussed, was in the sand box, and he would need that for helping Daddy. Daddy then commented that his own shovels were over at the depot, because he last used them when installing our new office sign. Henry considered this and immediately came to the only logical conclusion: "Well, I guess I'll have to do it myself, then." His words were so unexpected and stated so ernestly. When Dad said, "Well, how about we go over to the depot and get my shovels," Henry got excited. "Yeah! (pause) It's good having a guy to help!"
In addition to yardwork, there were several trips around the block on his trike and bike, some swinging, baseball, "making ice cream" in the sand box, building things in the living room with legos, licking the beaters from the cake Mom made ... all really good stuff.
We're also quite pleased with H's potty training progress. He's been wearing underpants for a few weeks now and hasn't had a #1 accident for several days. Getting him to go #2 on the potty is a work in progress, but, he's come a long long way in the last month, and he now talks confidently and positively about not needing diapers anymore. :)
That's the report from here. We're a very fortunate family.
